A Year Ago...

It's hard to believe that only a year ago today we were at our first Almabtrieb festival in Austria.

At the time, it was also our first Bavarian festival, and we had never seen anything like it. Seven hundred and fifty cows trudging through the town, with proud family members walking beside. All the way from the babies who had to be carried to the old men with their canes. Bringing the animals home. Down from the cold to warmth.

And the food. Why hadn't anyone ever told us that the food was like this at Bavarian festivals? The cakes were to die for, and you would have thought a chef had been slaving away for weeks with how good everything was-and hardly any of it was fried, either. =)

It was a great experience. And a great way to start the fall off, too.
