"Ohara Hadaka Matsuri"
Hadaka Matsuri a traditional autumn festival harking back to the Edo Era, created for the purpose of praying for bumper crops and good fishing.
The highlight of the festival is called Shiofumi when18 floats of local shrines are carried out to sea by brave young men clad only in scanty loincloth to the encouraging cheers of spectators while the patrons of the shrines sings traditional songs. Hoisting the mikoshi onto the shoulders of teams of 25-30 people, they charge into the surf and toss the gigantic mikoshi up and down. And then all the mikoshi are paraded on the shopping streets of the town until 10PM.
