A scene from the Balos Lagoon on the Greek island of Crete

The Balos Lagoon is the second anchorage of the day for the Gramvousa Ferry after its stop at the nearby island of Imeri Gramvousa. Hundreds of visitors a day are attracted to these extraordinary destinations throughout the summer months.

Fittingly, since Imeri Gramvousa is an island that has accommodated pirates, there is this sandy lagoon situated between the island and the coast of Crete. The towering islet just to the west forms part of a cape, through the lagoon, called Cap Tigani (which means "frying pan" in Greek).
