This was one of a series of archaeological excavations that occurred in a Western Kentucky area during a 1930's by a University of Kentucky with appropriation from President Roosevelt's New Deal programs. Tolu was a site of a tiny Mississippian Indian town that was comprised of three large, gritty mounds as well as numerous tiny mounds.
