Rhythm of the Night

Rhythm of the Night

Venice is quiet at night, with tour groups usually staying on the mainland (less expensive), and the masses of daytrippers returning to their bases. St. Mark's Square is one of many places to be after dark city. The strange phenomenon of dueling caf orchestras is at its peak. Every night, enthusiastic musicians from the various cafs entertain the square's wanderers by playing the same songs, "competing" for their attention. One can hang out behind the tables and chairs for free, or spring for a seat and end up spending 15-20 for some drinks and music. Hanging out in the back is not only free, but allows you to freely move on to the next caf orchestra when the musicians take a break or you need one. And oh, dancing on the square is encouraged, as you can see from the couple in the far right side.

This is sort of another attempt at street photography. Besides, it's been awhile since my last b&w. Check out the outtakes below...

And I apologize in advance if that El DeBarge song is now stuck in your head... ;)
